Mega Cat StudiosCase study · Luxodd · Publisher licensing

Cold email to signed licence.
Mega Cat Studios.

Luxodd cabinets need great games. Licensing titles from outside publishers had never been done there, so I opened the channel, and Mega Cat was the first to sign.

The situation

A new channel, opened from zero.

A connected arcade cabinet is only as good as the games on it. Luxodd needed publishers willing to put their titles on a new platform, on terms that worked for both sides.

There was no licensing channel, no target list and no standard deal. I built all of it, and I ran every conversation myself.

What I did

From the first email to the signature.

The deal touched sales, legal, engineering and marketing. I kept it moving through all four.

01

Pitch the market

I pitched more than 60 publishers and studios, from global names down to small independent teams.

02

Qualify the interest

11 publishers replied positively. I turned four of them into meetings. Mega Cat went furthest.

03

Shape the terms

I coordinated the licence terms through three drafts and a legal review, including the liability questions.

04

Deliver the games

I coordinated the handover of their games and memory maps to our engineers, so the titles actually ran on our hardware.

05

Prove it live

Their game ran on a Luxodd cabinet on the floor at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo, where I demoed it to players and partners.

06

Sign and launch

The licence was signed, with co-marketing coordinated alongside it.

Signed

“Three drafts. One legal review.
One signed licence.”

What it shows

What you get when you hire me.

01

I open new channels

No list, no template, no precedent. I built the channel and closed the first deal in it.

02

I run complex deals

Legal, engineering and marketing all had a part. I kept every thread moving to the signature.

03

I think past the signature

Co-marketing was part of the deal, so the licence earns from day one.
